Answers From Those In The Know Concluded!

“I love to pitch songs, even right to an artist's face,” she replied. “Some writers don't, really, and rely on their publishers. But each writer needs to learn which pitching style suits them best. Be sure your song fits the group. Find out who does the song screening in the groups, and get to know them. Ask how they like to receive songs (some still like the songs on a CD). Include your contact and pub info, and co-writer, if there is one. Most people say don't send but four or five at once. I send as many as I feel impressed to send...but not on the same day. Effective pitching is huge in the process of getting songs cut consistently. One more thing...get the highest quality demo done that you can afford--track and vocals --even if only piano, guitar, etc. Solo is fine, generally, but for Gospel, added harmony would be better.”

Author’s note:  For this article, I contacted twelve gospel song writers/song writing teams. I asked each only a few questions selected from eighteen questions. I received replies from four writers covering eleven of the eighteen questions.
