This  passage really clicked with me this morning.
I Corinthians 9:19 For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a slave to all, so that I may win more. 20 To the Jews I became as a Jew, so that I might win Jews; to those who are under the Law, as under the Law though not being myself under the Law, so that I might win those who are underthe Law; 21 to those who are without law, as without law, though not being without the law of God but under the law of Christ, so that I might win those who are without law.  22 To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak; I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some. 23 I do all things for the sake of the gospel, so that I may become a fellow partaker of it. |

22 To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak; I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some. 23 I do all things for the sake of the gospel, so that I may become a fellow partaker of it.
I believe everyone is called to tell others about Christ and are given gifts to really use as tools for their calling.  The question is to what extent do you go to reach others?? Being in a Christian band, I ask myself all the time this question. Am I doing enough to relate?? Am I making people understand that I was the same as them before God changed my life?? I’ve heard friends of mine say things like, “I’m not good enough to go to church”, or things like “I don’t have the clothes for church”. And I know that there are people who are at my band’s concerts who believe the lie that they’ll never be used like God is using me. I’m not saying conforming to the world spiritually by no means. Romans 12:2. But I don’t think relating to people in the way we talk, dress, sing, and etc… is conforming to the world as long as we do not compromise morals and/or do anything against God. I don’t have the answers on what’s black and white. Only God knows and I think there is a reason why everything is not so black on white on how to reach people. And I think that reason is because everyone is different and has different callings on telling others about God’s love. I speak in music terms because music is my personal tool, but you can apply this to your situation as well. I know that there are many other friends of mine in bands who have different callings than I do. And I’ve met three different types of music ministries.
The first is the group is called to minister just in churches and encourage Christians (Only Christian Venues).
The second feels called to encourage Christians as well as reach new people in diverse venues such as fairs, festivals, and etc...(Christian and Secular Venues)
And the third feels called to the extreme as to not be labeled as a Christian band in order to get into places where no Christian is in site (Only Secular Venues).
The first group that I mentioned is really great for discipling Christians .
The second group (like our band) is more of a mixture of discipling and reaching more non Christians in various venues,
The third group is great for planting seeds for people that have never heard about Christ in places where Church groups and Christian bands would never have the opportunity to go.
With each of these callings, there are different approaches to be successful at this. |
