4 Letter Words Words
Known and used by Christians

By Ed Smith

Fear - Love - Hurt - Hate

Not quite the four- letter words you expected, huh.  But these are words that truly are known by everyone, not just Christians.

LOVE!

Every Christian, of course, should know about Love.  But do we?
   There are so many kinds of love that the Greeks, and many others, have a word for each kind.  Among them are;

Philadelphia- brotherly Love

Philadelphia.  Brotherly love.  “Am I my brothers’ keeper”?  A question asked for centuries.
And the LORD said unto Cain, where is Abel thy brother?  And he said, I know not:Am I my brother’s keeper? GEN 4:9
There is a scripture which says;  “If a man say, I love God,  And hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his  Brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him,  That he who loveth God love his brother also”.1JO4:20-21
This scripture doesn’t give us any option, does it. We either love our brother, or we don’t love God!

Theophilus – Lover of God

Theophilus. Lover of God. We can add the last verse to this section. Loving God and loving your brother are unseperable.  Like pancakes and syrup; apple and pie.

What does it mean to love God?  One scripture says that if we love Him (God) we will  keep his commandments. Do we?
It is an easy thing to say, that we love God. In practice, however, We all fall short of that love.  We cry out to God, but we don’t hear him say what.  We ask Him why, but we don’t hear Him say, why not, I am God.  We ask Him when, and He says, when it’s your time.  We say we love Him, but when He asks us to do something, we  say later, or, is that really you God?
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son (Jesus).  No greater love hath a man than he lay down his life for a friend.  .

Both are scriptures from God’s Word which should show us that God is saying, this is how much I loved you, it’s how much I expect you to love each other.

Agape – Unconditional love

AGAPE Love. Unconditional love. This is a hard one. Have you ever said about someone;  There’s someone only a mother could love?  God loves them.  God cannot tolerate sin, but He loves us, the  Sinner.

When Jesus walked on this earth, he helped many people from all walks of life.
The prostitute was never put down, she was loved and told to go, and sin no more.
