WHAT HAPPENED TO THE APOSTLES?

All of the Apostles were insulted by the enemies of their Master.  They were called to seal their doctrines with their blood and nobly did they bear the trial.

Christian tradition has generally passed down that all but two of the Apostles were martyred, with John surviving into old age and Judas Iscariot hanging himself. The death of James, son of Zebedee is described in Acts 12:1 and the death of Judas Iscariot is described in Matthew 27:5 and Acts 1:18. The deaths of the others are subject of pious legends of varying authenticity.

PETER: was crucified at Rome during the Nero persecutions with his head downward, per request, so not to have his own crucifixion be like Jesus.

MATTHEW:  is the weakest of all traditions because no one can agree on the way or place of death however tradition says that he died as a martyr.

BARTHOLOMEW: was skinned alive and crucified at Derbend on the Caspian Sea.

JAMES, SON OF ZEBEDEE:(also called James the Greater): was executed by sword by Herod.

John, son of Zebedee: was thrown into boiling oil, but survived and was banished to the island of Patmos and  died of natural causes as a very old man, the only Apostle to do so.

ANDREW: was crucified upon a diagonal or X-shaped cross.

PHILIP: was crucified upside-down.

THOMAS: was killed by a spear in Mylapore, India.

James, son of Alphaeus: was thrown from a lofty pinnacle at the temple, and then beaten to death with a fuller’s club.

JUDE: was either crucified or was clubbed-to-death and his body was either sawed or axed in pieces after (together with Simon the Zealot) in Beirut.

Simon the Zealot: was either crucified or was clubbed-to-death and his body was either sawed or axed in pieces after (together with Jude) in Beirut, or crucified by the Romans in Lincolnshire, Britain, or crucified in Samaria.

Judas Iscariot: Death by hanging as described in Acts12:1.

MATTHIAS:(Replacement for Judas Iscariot picked by the surviving eleven) was first stoned, and then beheaded.

SUCH WAS THE FATE OF THE APOSTLES

ACCORDING TO TRADITIONAL STATEMENTS

Today, we think we are persecuted if we are laughed at.
Would we make it through what the disciples endured.  I think Not!

You may not be aware, but these kinds of tortures are being endured by Christians in other countries.  Don’t look now, but even in America, Christians are beginning to endure more than just being laughed at.
